ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS)

Our systems support a large range of driver assistance systems and offer unparalleled accuracy when calibrating or teaching all integrated sensors. Our smart technology can be used standalone or integrated into NCA systems.

AUTO TOE SET SYSTEMS

Our robotic auto toe set system (ATS) consists of two robots with torque gun end-effectors used in conjunction with BEPCO’s non-contact alignment (NCA) machine to automatically adjust vehicle toe to desired settings.

Our NCA machines dynamically measure the angle and position of the wheels—using this information, the robots loosen the jam nuts, adjust the tie rod, and finally tighten the jam nuts to a specified torque.

Our ATS system is highly configurable, allowing greater flexibility when dealing with changes in vehicle design and production processes. For example, if the position of the tie rod changes the robots can simply be re-taught or a new vehicle type can be quickly added—if the properties of the tie rod change (and there is a change in toe value) as the jam nut is tightened this can also be accounted for, keeping final toe values as close to the desired value as possible.

The combination of robots that automate the toe set procedure and extensive cycle data collection allows for reduced and consistent cycle times.

BUZZ-SQUEAK-RATTLE SYSTEMS

Our expertise in dynamic vehicle testing has allowed us to produce an extremely cost effective alternative to the test track.

The four post buzz-squeak-rattle system is a fully mechanical rig that simulates both high and low frequency rattles (that might be encountered on the test track) by increasing or decreasing the driving speed on the specially designed bump cam rolls. Rattle force is variable—simply driving from one side of the rolls to the other creates variability due to rolls that are paved with bump cams that increase in size from left to right. These variable rolls are mechanically coupled, meaning no expensive motor and drive systems are required.

HEADLIGHT AIMING SYSTEMS

Our headlight aiming systems (HLA) measure and evaluate a large range of different lights and they can use European, U.S., or Japanese setting standards, making our systems flexible. Our intelligent machines can function both as a standalone units or integrated into NCA systems—they feature manual or semiautomatic adjustment. Our units also have the ability to talk to the vehicle over the vehicle com system.

Burke E. Porter Machinery’s HLA systems can measure and set fog lights, and adjustments can be made manually or electrically. Our HLA systems include adjustments of a variety of advanced driver assistance systems. By using the semi-automatic adjustment, we meet the new industry requirements.

Our HLA systems can also come equipped with a vehicle alignment corrector, a fully automatic fog light setting, a laser calibration device for NCA master gauge, a standalone laser calibration device, a vehicle misalignment compensator, and electrical screwdrivers.

  • HLA can be controlled by your NCA machine
  • Integrated light measurement camera
  • Beam viewer window for visual double-check
  • Large light-collector lens
  • Safety speed for motorized movements
  • PLC operated movement controls
  • TFT operator screen

NON-CONTACT WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Our multi-line laser, computerized, non-contact wheel alignment system (NCA) is built to handle even the most unique tire shapes. With temperature calibration, an increased field of view, no need for mechanical camera movement, and stray and ambient light filters, our systems are guaranteed to be accurate. Additionally, our system’s modular design makes it capable of adapting to a wide range of tire and vehicle sizes—and it can read wheel tilt, which eliminates the need of a camber camera. Our NCA machines are easy to use and flexible and support manual, semi-automatic, and full-automatic toe set adjustment.

Our NCA Machines will accurately and repeatedly measure the vehicle toe, camber, and caster settings on the four wheels of a vehicle—these values are continuously displayed, allowing operators to make real-time adjustments.

In addition, our multi-line system provides 3D reconstruction and curve calculations, providing the most accurate data possible and making the sensors less prone to positioning. Simply put, calibration and verification is easier with our systems. Our sensors not only provide the highest level of accuracy, they provide a cost savings—fewer sensors are needed, allowing the same level of accuracy with 2 sensors as opposed to 3. Existing machines can be upgraded.

ROLL BRAKE / DYNAMIC VEHICLE TESTING

Our roll brake or dynamic vehicle test systems simulate real world road conditions that provide precise, repeatable test results in a production environment.

We offer modular solutions with reduced manufacturing costs, to fully integrated test cells that are highly flexible and capable of running all dynamic tests. Our roll brake/dynamic vehicle testing systems are pre-engineered to achieve maximum efficiency and quality—if one of our existing products doesn’t meet your specifications, our staff of highly skilled engineers can design and build a system that meets a customer’s exact needs.

Burke E. Porter Machinery’s test systems are designed for high performance production lines.

Some of the main systems that are tested include:

  • Brakes and ABS
  • Transmission
  • Parking PAWL and Parking Brake
  • Speed Control
  • Traction Control and Electronic Stability Programs (ESP)
  • Supplemental Restraints (air bag systems)
  • Emissions

Our suspension assembly and alignment systems are able to set caster, camber, and toe. Additionally, our machines process from above or below, which means they are adaptable to different plant configurations.

TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY

Our tire and wheel assembly machines offer all the customization required for seamless integration and all of our systems come with our patented robotic mounters and air over hydraulic inflators that maintain tire pressures to tight tolerances. With our tire pressure monitor support (TPM), customers are assured that their tires are always perfectly inflated. We also support stemmers, soapers, and loaders, and with our bead seat/load simulation, balancing, and uniform testers, our smart systems can accommodate any need.

Our tire and wheel assembly machines also include other system modules, including vision error proofing, our patented multi-telescoping dual ring tire inflator, and the industry’s first single/double robotic tire mounters. Our modular design concept allows customers to purchase only the components they need, knowing that they can easily and economically upgrade to a fully automated, robotic system as their needs evolve. Additionally, our innovative, patented robotic rim valve stem Inserter and tire mounter systems provide the unparalleled flexibility needed to process a wide variety of wheel and tire combinations—no more time consuming changeovers required by hard tooled systems.
